Gin Miller Guest Teaches at Froggy's

Best known as the creator of step training and star of over 40 fitness videos, including the best selling Step Reebok series, Gin Miller recently surprised members at Froggy's, teaching Mary's step and strength classes.

Gin, who was in town on business, is a regular contributor to Cooking Light magazine, and internationally known as a premiere fitness presenter and innovator.

Photos were taken for an upcoming interview article for IDEA magazine (International Dance and Exercise Association) for their anniversary issue in the spring, recognizing top fitness professionals. As one of their "instructors of the year" and an inductee into the National Fitness Hall of Fame, Gin is widely recognized as one of the all time legends in fitness.

In addition to the development of step training, Gin, as a Reebok Master Trainer, was also a pioneer in what is now referred to as "functional strength". Before the term became the buzz word in fitness, Gin worked with Reebok to develop the "Final Cuts" program and RNT - reactive neuromuscular training. Sometimes referred to as "four limb" training, this integrated approach in strength combines movements of the upper and lower body performed over a strong and stable core.

None were as thrilled with the experience as former instructor Luvie (pictured in the Froggy's T) and current instructor, Catherine (in red), who both have great memories of taking one of Gin's workshops with hundreds of other instructors at past conventions.

Class Information

Strength Training Classes - included with membership

The functional based strength training classes are, year round, our most popular classes. Each class is tailored to the levels of the participants, with various options given to modify the workout to your fitness level.

Mondays - Total Body
Thursdays - 30 minute Abs & Core -
stability ball and mat work.
Fridays - Total Body

Strength Classes - taught by Mary Griffin

Step Classes - included with membership

You won't find any better step classes anywhere in the Keys. These classes are taught by the industry's standard - 32 count combinations, expertly built, broken down and cued and appropriated specifically to the participants' level. No two classes are exactly the same, so if repetitive cardio bores you, delight in the quick passing of your workout as you move with the music.

Interval - included with membership
Short on time or stuck on a plateau? Try the interval cardio class to jump start your metabolism, increase your level of fitness, and burn tons of fat... it's a shorter amount of class time, but your body will continue to burn fat post workout.

The evening schedule offers a yoga/pilates class with Rhonda. On Mondays, Jeff teaches a power-type yoga class.

Bellydancing

Taught by professional bellydancer and seasoned pro instructor, "Diana", Bellydancing is a great class to learn a new activity, develop your core, increase coordination, and have lots of fun!

Steve's Cardio Kickboxing

Our Group Fitness Instructors

Mary Griffin

Mary started teaching classes at Froggy's when we first opened, thanks in large part to our floating wood floor. Now a veteran instructor, Mary has years of teaching experience and specializes in step, stability ball and functional strength.

Mary, who grew up here in the Keys, returned home several years ago after living in the Atlanta area and Georgia since 1974. She became ACE certified and started teaching in 1988, right as the step revolution was taking place, and in 1993 started working for Gin Miller, the creator of step training.

While in the northwest Atlanta area, Mary taught classes at Sportslife/Crunch and several other clubs, both large and small. Her skills as an instructor allow her to apply just about any format - from true interval training, circuit, complex choreography, high/low impact and even hip hop/funk - all depending on the desires of the class attendees.

Mary's signature step class, Zig Zag Step (double step), has been written up in Fitness magazine as one of the best new uses of the step - and it's still being taught in Atlanta at Bally's (formerly Crunch).

Mary continues to work for Gin Miller Fitness as Gin's webmaster, and also serves as webmaster for other fitness related sites and several local sites.
